What Happened to the Eternals?
After their debut in Eternals (2021), the characters vanished from the spotlight. But Marvel hasn’t forgotten them:
-
Producer Nate Moore has confirmed: “We haven’t seen the last of those characters.”
-
Characters like Kingo (Kumail Nanjiani) and Sersi (Gemma Chan) are expected to return—just not in a direct sequel yet.
-
The massive Celestial frozen in the ocean (Tiamut) has been referenced subtly in other projects, like She-Hulk and Captain America: Brave New World.
What Is “The King in Black”?
In the comics, The King in Black is a cosmic-level threat named Knull, the god of symbiotes (like Venom). This storyline has nothing to do with the Eternals—and more to do with Spider-Man, Venom, and cosmic Marvel lore.
At present, Sony owns the film rights to Venom and the symbiotes, not Marvel Studios. So a crossover event like this isn’t just unlikely—it’s impossible for now.
Why No Eternals 2?
There are a few reasons Marvel hasn’t greenlit a sequel yet:
-
The original film received mixed reviews and performed modestly at the box office.
-
Marvel is focusing on stronger franchises and streamlining its storytelling after the overloaded Phase 4.
-
CEO Bob Iger and Kevin Feige have shifted toward fewer, higher-quality projects.
Will We See the Eternals Again?
Yes—just not in Eternals 2. Here's where they may appear next:
-
Avengers: Secret Wars (2027): A multiverse crossover where almost any Marvel character could return.
-
Midnight Sons or Blade (2026): With Black Knight (Kit Harington) introduced in Eternals, this route is likely.
-
Possibly in a Disney+ animated series or special presentation—Marvel is using those to test storylines before committing to full movies.
In Summary
-
“Eternals 2: The King in Black” is not real. No such movie is in development or on Marvel’s release calendar.
-
The Eternals are not gone—but their future appearances will likely come through other MCU stories, not a solo sequel.
-
The King in Black storyline belongs to Venom and symbiote lore, not the Eternals, and is currently outside of the MCU’s reach.
