Upon investigation, Chen discovers that the duel was rigged and that his master was poisoned. Enraged by this dishonor, he defeats the supposed victor easily and exposes the deceit.

As Chen challenges both Japanese imperial oppression and the corruption within his own martial arts school, tensions rise. He also faces discrimination for his romantic relationship with Mitsuko Yamada, a Japanese woman, which causes conflict in both communities.

Chen ultimately squares off against General Fujita, a brutal Japanese military officer and powerful martial artist. Their final duel is one of the most iconic fight scenes in martial arts cinema.

In the end, to preserve peace and prevent further escalation, Chen fakes his own death with the help of allies and disappears into obscurity.
