Plot Summary
Three years have passed since Saul Goodman—formerly Jimmy McGill—was sentenced to 86 years in federal prison for his role in Walter White’s criminal empire. In the quiet monotony of prison life, Saul has adapted to being just another inmate. No flashy suits. No commercials. Just a man with too much time and a head full of regrets.
But change comes when Kim Wexler, now working as a legal aid attorney in New Mexico, is attacked by an unknown assailant. She survives, but the incident is linked to a powerful cartel faction seeking revenge for Saul’s cooperation with federal agents. Kim’s life is in danger, and she’s forced to confront the man she’s tried to distance herself from.
Act I – The Call
While in prison, Saul receives an anonymous message slipped under his cell door: “She’s next.” He immediately suspects the cartel. Desperate to protect Kim, Saul strikes a deal with a corrupt guard and a shady lawyer who can arrange a temporary “medical transfer” — essentially a covert escape.
Act II – Back in the Game
Saul finds himself back in Albuquerque, moving through the shadows to avoid both law enforcement and cartel hitmen. Old contacts—some friendly, some dangerous—resurface:
-
Mike Ehrmantraut’s old associates reluctantly offer Saul information about cartel movements.
-
Nacho Varga’s surviving family warns him that the cartel has new leadership: the ruthless “El Tiburón” (The Shark).
As Saul digs deeper, he learns that El Tiburón believes Kim has incriminating evidence from her days working with Mesa Verde and other clients.
Act III – The Plan
Saul reverts to his con-man genius. Using disguises, false leads, and legal loopholes, he orchestrates a scheme to frame El Tiburón for money laundering in order to draw DEA attention. But the plan requires Kim’s direct involvement — forcing them into close contact for the first time in years. Their conversations are tense, full of unspoken love and guilt.
Climax
The final showdown takes place in a deserted motel outside Albuquerque. Saul and Kim, cornered by El Tiburón’s men, use a mixture of Saul’s quick talking and Kim’s legal cunning to stall for time until federal agents—tipped off by Saul—arrive. In the chaos, El Tiburón is arrested, but Saul is recaptured as well.
Ending
In court, Saul refuses a reduced sentence in exchange for testifying against the cartel, instead taking full responsibility for putting Kim in danger. As he’s led away, Kim visits him one last time. She says quietly, “You did the right thing, Jimmy.” He smiles, and for the first time in years, it’s genuine.
The final shot mirrors the series finale — Saul walking down a prison corridor, but now with a calm dignity, a man who’s finally made peace with himself.
