Disney’s most lovable alien is making a comeback. On June 26, 2025—known to fans as “626 Day” in honor of Stitch’s experiment number—the studio officially announced that a live-action sequel to Lilo & Stitch is in the works. The reveal came with a cheeky teaser showing Stitch zipping around the Disney lot in a pink convertible before skidding to spell out the film’s title: Lilo & Stitch 2.
The sequel’s greenlight follows the staggering success of the 2025 live-action remake, which raked in more than $910 million worldwide in just a few weeks and eventually crossed the $1 billion mark. It became the first Hollywood film of 2025 to achieve that milestone, proving that audiences still have plenty of love for the Hawaiian girl and her mischievous blue companion.
Returning to the franchise is Chris Sanders, co-creator of the original 2002 animated classic and the voice behind Stitch. Sanders will pen the script for the new film, marking his first creative contribution to the series since its debut. Producer Jonathan Eirich is also back, though Disney has yet to confirm whether director Dean Fleischer Camp or the original cast will return.
While plot details remain under wraps, early hints suggest the reappearance of fan-favorite experiments such as Angel (Experiment 624) and possibly the chaotic Leroy (Experiment 629). If true, these characters could add new layers of humor, heart, and intergalactic trouble to the story.
No official release date has been set, but industry insiders speculate that Lilo & Stitch 2 could arrive in theaters sometime in 2026. With Sanders at the helm of the screenplay and Disney eager to build on the first film’s momentum, the sequel promises to be a heartfelt, colorful adventure that once again celebrates the meaning of “ohana.”
