Tron: Ares

A New Kind of User

Set years after Tron: Legacy (2010), the trailer teases a dramatic shift in the digital frontier. The once-isolated Grid has evolved, and Ares, an advanced sentient program designed for warfare, is chosen to cross over into the real world on a mission that could forever change both realities.

With a sleek red-and-black suit pulsing with energy, Ares declares in the trailer:

"I was made for war. But now… I choose something greater."

Returning to the Grid

The trailer flashes neon-lit action across the Grid’s updated design — sleek lightcycles, brutal disc combat, and towering data structures. Fans will recognize echoes of the TRON aesthetic, but with a grittier, more physical tone. The real-world segments blend seamlessly with digital environments, as Ares confronts humanity’s fear of artificial life.

Evan Peters, Greta Lee, and Jodie Turner-Smith co-star alongside Leto, with Jeff Bridges rumored to return in some form as the legendary Kevin Flynn.

Directed by Joachim Rønning

Helmed by Joachim Rønning (Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales), TRON: Ares promises a mature, high-concept take on identity, artificial intelligence, and the boundaries between creator and creation. The trailer also hints at an ideological war between humans and programs in the real world.

What the Director Says:

“We’re expanding the TRON universe beyond the screen. This is a story about what happens when our creations ask: Why can’t we be more?”
