HUMMINGBIRD

Plot Summary

Statham stars as Joey Jones, a former special forces soldier who has gone AWOL and lives on the streets, haunted by his past and spiraling into alcoholism. After a violent confrontation with thugs, Joey stumbles into a vacant luxury apartment and assumes the identity of its absent owner. With a new chance at life, he reinvents himself—working as an enforcer for a local gangster while secretly helping the homeless community he came from.

His connection with Cristina, a compassionate nun who runs a soup kitchen, becomes the emotional heart of the film. As Joey tries to track down the murderer of a homeless friend and make amends for his own violent history, he is faced with a difficult choice between vengeance and redemption.

 Performances

  • Jason Statham delivers one of the most restrained and emotionally layered performances of his career. Instead of relying on brute strength and quick fists, his character communicates inner torment and vulnerability.

  • Agata Buzek plays Cristina with a quiet strength and grace, offering a powerful counterbalance to Joey’s broken soul.

Visuals & Atmosphere

The film paints a haunting portrait of nighttime London—full of shadows, neon lights, and hidden suffering. It blends the harshness of urban life with poetic stillness, capturing the duality of the city as both a place of ruin and unexpected humanity.

 Themes

  • Redemption and forgiveness

  • Trauma and the invisible scars of war

  • Morality within criminality

  • Urban isolation and survival

Rather than glorifying violence, Hummingbird uses it sparingly and meaningfully, focusing instead on what comes after: the weight of conscience.
